Workout At Home With Jillian & Gaiam


Who started out the new year with a resolution to workout? We know that it’s a huge resolution each year for so many people and it’s a tough one for many to keep on top of and follow through on for more then a month or two. I get it. I’m the same way. I actually stopped making ‘resolutions’ at the start of each year. I find it’s too much pressure. Don’t sweat it, keep at it and if you fizzle out, don’t worry! Part of what makes me fizzle out is that I get bored. Bored of the gym, bored of the routine, bored of trying to fit my exercise into their hours. Life doesn’t always work with gym hours (especially if you have children that you need to figure an alternative out for while you go to the gym).

SO, for the new year Jillian Michaels is going to be my friend. I mean, she has been for a while (did I mention I LOVE her? Well, I do!). I’ve had Jillian Michaels Wii games and all that jazz and it was great! She kicked my butt even on a video game. I was given the chance to try out her new workout video, 10 Minute Body Transformation and let me tell you, once again, she did not disappoint.

I know some people groan the minute they hear the words ‘workout video’ but just give me a minute to let you know why this one is going to be a keeper for so many. I know when I look at a video and see that it’s an hour long workout I have to groan to. I don’t always have an hour to set aside to do a video…what I do usually have is 10-20 minutes. Are you with me? Good because this is what’s going to make this video for you. This video is made up of five 10 minute videos. SO, if you only have 10 minutes, you pick one of the 10 minute sessions you want to do and boom, done. If you have 20 minutes, pick your two faves and done! No feeling guilty, no feeling defeated because you couldn’t make it to the end. As you can see from the photos, even my teenage daughter enjoys doing the video!

The workouts have a little bit of everything to choose from like kickboxing, pilates, booty booty camp & cardio. It is great for all skill levels so don’t be discouraged before you even try it. It’s an upbeat video that will keep you engaged and since each 10 minute workout is so different you can mix and match for a completely new routine each time. No getting bored of doing the same thing over and over each day. The routines themselves equal to 50 minutes but with a bit of chit chat from Jillian it totals a running time of 68 minutes. If you’re going to do an at home routine, you most definitely need to have a good yoga mat and we have the perfect one for you. It’s from Gaiam and it is a beauty! It’s a 5mm thick mat that is a firmer support to help with protecting your joints. It is reversible which makes it great for a variety of activities. One side is traditional non-slip and the other side is smoother and has less of a grip to it. The mat has a beautiful mandala design on one side and is solid color on the other…. but if that’s not your cup of tea Gaiam has so many other beautiful mats to choose from and they have a variety of thicknesses so you will be able to find something to match your workout needs.

Another thing I noticed with this mat is that it doesn’t curl up on the ends after being stored. Some I’ve had in the past would have curly ends for a while after unrolling them. It was a pain when I was trying to do a work out or I’d have to plan out my workout so that I could take the mat out and let it flatten itself out before I was ready to start. This one never fails to lay flat right off of the bat.
